Leaving A Legacy Of Faith

In an ever-changing culture, there is one constant: God is building His heavenly kingdom, and He is using the next generation to do it.

Early Christianity

Scholars and historians have studied and questioned how Christianity has lived through the 21st century. This movement began with a small group of followers 2,000 years ago in Judea and has grown into a religion with over 2.3 billion believers scattered across the globe.

On paper, Christianity shouldn’t have survived past the 1st century. At the time, the Roman Empire was still in its early reign. They had been practicing polytheism, which was reflected in their daily lifestyle and culture. Early believers were oppressed for their belief in Jesus’ messages and His claim to be the Messiah. History says that John the Apostle was the only one of Jesus’ 12 who was not put to death for his faith, and he still suffered greatly for continuing to share Jesus’ doctrines.

This trend continued for many years following Jesus’ death. Christians were targeted, harassed, brutally beaten, and murdered because of their faith, yet they kept paving the way.

It was not until the 4th century that Christianity became more widespread as the Roman Emperor Constantine changed the culture by establishing the Edict of Milan, allowing for open worship. It was at this time that the New Testament became recognized as Holy Scripture, despite being completed within a few short decades of Jesus’ death. So the question is, how did this drastic change happen?

Leaving A Legacy of Faith

Jesus’ teachings were handed down by word of mouth. Stories passed along through families, friends, and communities. Parents and grandparents would teach their children until those children grew up and taught their own.

“We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD, about his power and his mighty wonders.” Psalms 78:4 (NLT)

Believers intentionally passed down these spiritual lessons, values, and godly characteristics, leaving an immortal legacy to be inherited by the next generation. Each story told, good and bad, was a stepping stone to guide how we live our lives today and build a righteous foundation that honors God.

It is now our responsibility to continue this faithful legacy for the youth of today, for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren to know God and His wonderful works.

Ways To Invest In The Next Generation

Intentional Mentorship & Authentic Relationships

Intentional mentorship and authentic relationships focus on building genuine connections that model Christ-like actions rather than just teaching biblical content. Key principles for developing authentic Christ-sharing relationships with young people involve being vulnerable about your own spiritual journey, providing one-on-one mentorship, and helping them apply biblical values and understandings to their daily lives.

Consistant Prayer

Dedicate time to pray for the younger generation to experience heart transformation and to witness the good works of God. Pray for them to remain steadfast in their faith and turn their backs on temptations that will lead them astray.

Financial and Resource Stewardship

West Sound Youth For Christ is one of the many ways you can financially invest in the next generation. Our programs and ministry are designed to build authentic Christ-sharing relationships with teens that are founded on biblical principles.
