The Power of Prayer: Caring Beyond What We See
Wednesdays at the Westside Center are always filled with a good kind of chaos! It’s our busiest day of the week. As students start heading home—or off to practice or other school activities—I noticed Lexi sitting alone at a table, looking sad.
I walked over and gently asked if she was okay. She looked up with a sad face and said, “Yes.” I replied, “Okay just let me know if you need anything.”
The awesome thing about knowing Jesus is that He sees and knows everything. Even though I didn’t know what Lexi was going through, I could trust that God did—and I lifted her up in prayer.
The next week, as I was greeting students at the door, I saw Lexi again. She told me she was wearing a heart monitor because she had been feeling dizzy and not like herself. I immediately thought back to the week before—wow, God! I was so thankful that I had already been praying for her. Sometimes students are going through things they aren’t ready to share
yet. Whether they open up or not, we can still be praying for them and ready to listen when they are.

Through our free drop-in centers, we create safe, welcoming spaces for youth to connect with background-checked, trained mentors over games, snacks, tutoring, and life-changing conversations about faith and purpose. Whether through our regular school-year programs, summer camp, or seasonal events, we are dedicated to building authentic relationships across Kitsap and North Mason counties.
